Milton “DJ Deacon” Cockerham is a North Carolina Producer, Turntablist and Recording Artist who has been around music all his life. With an infatuation in the instruments and disc jockey equipment that his father brought home on the weekends soon had “Deacon” begging his parents for his own musical instruments. A childhood filled with drum machines and keyboards “DJ Deacon” found himself mimicking the music he heard on his parent’s albums and the radio. At the age thirteen “DJ Deacon” got his first set of turntables and took an interest in the styles of DJ’s like Grand Master Flash, DJ Cut Creator, and Jam Master Jay from Run D.M.C. Discovering his talents on the 1’s and 2’s “DJ Deacon” decided that he wanted to become more then a bedroom DJ and started making mix tapes to pass out to his friends and family. In the mid 90’s, DJ Deacon started getting calls to do house parties which eventually led him in to spinning records at local nightclubs.
In the year 2000 DJ Deacon decided to enter the beat making scene and purchased a used drum machine, four track recorder, and keyboard from a pawnshop and built a reputation in his area for producing beats and recording. In 2004 DJ Deacon released “Snatch A Knot Volume 1” featuring local artists Jazz Boogie, Ryan “RnB” Barber, Shadow Shade, Antuan “Dawg” Surratt, and George Barber under his record label Knot Rocker Entertainment LLC.
Now for the shocker, in 2006 DJ Deacon received a phone call from Adrian “Turbo” Trbovich; who at the time needed beats for his album titled Daydream, which mixed Hip Hop, Bluegrass and Jazz together to form a unique sound. At first, Deacon thought the phone call was a prank and was about to hang the phone until Adrian “Turbo” Trbovich went into more detail about the Daydream album. DJ Deacon added drum tracks and melodies to the song Daydream and Cluck Old Hen off the Daydream album. After “Turbo” discovered Deacon’s talent on the turntables he asked if Deacon would like to be a member of the band. Now as four year member, you can hear his production and turntable skills on the Turbo Pro Project album titled This-N-That, and see his talent on stage.
